Beauty Box One – ‘I Express’ (a review)

Hello my blogger friends.. How are you all doing? Here, it has been crazy with all the rains and the storm.. Flash flood situation, I barely went out this week. We saw sunshine today after so many days. I hope weather will be better now and the condition will improve. Fingers crossed…

So this is long lost post for the review of products I received in my beauty box from Birchbox. But before I start, let me tell you something, well.. I am not a big makeup expert or guru 😀 I know a little bit about the basics and what goes where 😉 In my teen years I was never into makeup or any sort of styling.. Also, I guess I have always been more into the art of fruits and vegs to keep the skin glowy but I didn’t succeed in that either 😉 Very recently I started this liking towards the makeup thingies and I am really interested to learn more. I keep on browsing different blogs and vlogs to learn the technique to apply stuff right on my face.. Now since the beauty box sends skin care products along with makeup items, I guess I should be fine to express my feelings about the same. Having said all this, let’s dive in…

My March month box had the collection of makeup, skincare and hair-care products scooched in.. Let me start with the Skin care first.

Sonic Radiance AM Skin Illuminating Cleanser from Clarisonic was stated to brighten the dark spots, even tone and transform skin for a more radiant complexion.  I know any cleanser would not show result in a single wash so I gave it a week. Must say a little of this cleansing formula goes a long way. It smells really good. It does remove oil and dirt on the surface of the skin leaving it clean and radiating for a while. But it leaves skin really dry (and I have oily skin type) & feeling stretchy and that’s the only low point. I would give it a 3 out of 5.

Stainiac – Beauty Queen from theBalm cosmetics is a best selling stain and can be applied on cheeks or lips for that sheer, rosy tint. Using this on cheek was way tricky then I thought. It does give a natural look but you need to be really quick and not let it dry before you spread it out on the cheek. A dot on the cheek and quickly blend it. It looks beautiful and cheek looks naturally blushed. On the lips, it was easier to apply. Just sweep on the lips and it gives a very natural color, but it didn’t stay for a long time with me as I eat my lip products. You might do a good job with it 🙂 I would give it a 4/5.

Next is this amazing clarifying shampoo from Number4. O my god.. The fragrance of this thing is so so so amazing. The moment i hit the press button on the top of this bottle, the burst of that pure scent took me to a different place. Yes, pure is the correct word. It was so soothing and relaxing, I just cant express in words. As good as it smells, its cleansing formula works the same way. It gives very less lather but still works awesome, does not take away all moisture from the hair and scalp. Again a little goes a long way. Leaves hair shiny and smelling awesome. Add on, it can also be used as a body wash. I would give it a 5/5.

Color & Smudge Shadow Crayon in Aspen Pine from treStique is the kind of product I had never tried before and I would love to try these type of makeup items. This was my first time using a Crayon shadow and I was really excited, only problem, I didn’t read it or skipped it somehow that it’s an eye shadow. So….I applied it as an  eye pencil to fill the waterline of my eye. Don’t worry nothing bad happened, but something amazing happened. Usually my waterline eye liner just smudges away after an hour or so of application but this one didn’t. It stay put the same way entire day and I was so happy. Later I realized, while showing it my friend, that it’s an eye shadow and immediately I started googling any side effects of using shadow on eye waterline, and I was safe 🙂 Just make sure that you don’t apply it inside the waterline, just on the outer crease. This is well pigmented and creamy and even the sample is good enough for atleast a month even if used daily. It does stay put for entire day and color is amazing with smooth finish. Looks even more beautiful as an eye shadow 😉 I would give this a 5/5.

Hydrating Collagen Eye Pads from Wilma Schumann Skin Care. This is one item out of all in this beauty box that didn’t impress me a lot. It says it hydrates and pumps skin around your eyes for a bright, youthful look. I used it as stated in the pack and I didn’t see any difference. May be coz you cannot see the difference in one application. Well I am not sure 🙂 So when I opened the pack, a beautiful rose fragrance filled my nostrils and it reminded me of rose water, in fact, it smelled exactly like rose water. This took me back to the college days, when we used to make eye patches with cotton soaked in rose water for our eye relaxation routine 😉 Well, these eye pads are to be applied beneath the eyes. Nothing much happened later but I did feel soothing and cool beneath my eyes. May be, a little more relaxed but no visible changes. I would give it a 2/5.

So this was my first beauty/makeup/hair/skin/blah blah product review ever… Aaaa I would say I enjoyed writing this post.. I hope this is helpful to you all!
